Accounting – Assistant Controller
Overview
C.D. Peacock is seeking an experienced and versatile Assistant Controller to join our team. The Assistant Controller will be responsible for accounting and finance activities including reconciliations, account analysis, cash management, and process improvement opportunities that align with the company's strategy.
Responsibilities
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations
- Ensure proper internal controls are in place and adhered to for all financial transactions
- Partner with company management on cash management activities
- Lead merchandise inventory reconciliations
- Enhance vendor statement reconciliation process and analysis
- Analyze and monitor customer store credits and gift certificate balances
- Identify opportunities for improvement in accounting processes and suggest efficiencies for activities including accounts payable, transaction processing, and client financing
- Manage processes for tracking and obtaining vendor merchandise credits, advertising cost sharing
- Audit client transactions for compliance with internal controls and regulatory requirements such as filing Form 8300
- Support external auditors during the annual financial audits and assist in the implementation of recommendations
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making processes

- Proven 5-10 years accounting experience in a private company or family-owned business is preferred but not required
- Proficient in advanced Microsoft Excel skills, general ledger/accounts payable ERP modules.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
- Must be able to work (on average) 40 hours per week Must be able to lift a minimum of 15 lbs.
